U.S. Helsinki Commission and House Foreign Affairs Committee staff met today with U.S. diplomat Bruce G. Berton, who will succeed Jonathan Moore as the Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Berton is finishing a two-year assignment as the Principal Deputy in the international community’s Office of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which included supervision responsibilities regarding the country’s key Brcko District. Berton joined the Foreign Service in 1987 and has served in Caracas, Moscow, Bermuda, Hong Kong, Rome, Mexico City, Frankfurt, Warsaw and Sofia, the latter as Deputy Chief of Mission, in addition to assignments at the State Department in Washington, DC. The Helsinki Commission and many of its current members have a long-standing interest in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including a concern about its future, as well as an ongoing interest in the work of the OSCE in the field as in its Vienna headquarters. https://www.facebook.com/helsinkicommission/photos/pcb.10156224763989947/10156224760399947/
